The cities in Madagascar are definitely worth learning about. All over Madagascar, you come across cities, towns, and villages of every size. Each has its own charm and offers its own set of experiences for its tourist.
But as a tourist, the cities in Madagascar can be quite hard to navigate. Madagascar is truly an offline country, so finding what you need and want requires recommendations from other travelers and locals.
The best tip I can give you is do to your research before you get there. There are, not many but some, reliable sources online, and they will give you the best possible preparation to make the most of your time in that city.
One city you’re likely to come across is Antananarivo, informally known as Tana, as the majority of international flights will take you there. Antananarivo is placed in the central highlands at a relatively high altitude.
And speaking of high altitude, that is another reason to research the cities you come across in Madagascar, as the climate changes tremendously. You might be going to the south, west, or east where the temperature is always warm, but if your itinerary confines you to spend a few days in Antananarivo from June-August on the way there, I’d pack a sweater as well!
Take it from someone who didn’t at her first visit – moi! I’m telling you, that was a few super cold days.
